Squid Proxies

Tuesday, March 15th, 2005

BoingBoing is reporting that Slashdot has blocked access to their RSS feed for ETech attendees. Apparently this has happened in the past. I guess its not a huge issues, but wouldnt transparent squid proxy be able to prevent things like this out of the box? Just cache the RSS feed for the ammount of time. I’m sure it would be useful for other sites too, not to mention that the pipe there must be getting saturated. I’m sure people are downloaing, browsing, and VoIPing like crazy at a conference like ETech. I know they were at SCALE and we’re only 2 days. ETech is 4.

I was actually thinking of heading down for the show, but I couldnt afford it (its still around $500~ even with the 65% student discount). The talks look very interesting and I’m sure its worth the money, its just out of my budget. Hopefully IT Conversations will podcast them.

Ron picked up some UnixWare at $2.99. SCO must be getting desperate 🙂
