{"id":246,"date":"2006-05-01T15:03:39","date_gmt":"2006-05-01T18:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fonz.net\/blog\/archives\/2006\/05\/01\/public-transporation-rocks-or-how-i-learned-to-hate-driving\/"},"modified":"2015-03-17T10:36:27","modified_gmt":"2015-03-17T13:36:27","slug":"public-transporation-rocks-or-how-i-learned-to-hate-driving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fonz.net\/blog\/archives\/2006\/05\/01\/public-transporation-rocks-or-how-i-learned-to-hate-driving\/","title":{"rendered":"Public Transporation Rocks &#8212; Or how I learned to hate driving&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dave comments on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scripting.com\/2006\/05\/01.html#whyILikeBart\">BART and public transit<\/a> (<em>Why I like Bart)<\/em> over at Scripting News.\u00c2\u00a0 Over the last few years I&#8217;ve been down here in Argentina relying almost entirely on public transportation via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metrovias.com.ar\/\">subway<\/a>, cab, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tbanet.com.ar\/inicio.asp\">train<\/a>, and recently buses. <\/p>\n<p>Every time I go back to the US and start driving again I realize how much I don&#8217;t miss it.\u00c2\u00a0 Yes, there is a freedom to being able to get in your car in drive, anywhere, its also insanely stressful.\u00c2\u00a0 &quot;Hrm that guy just cut me off!&quot;\u00c2\u00a0 &quot;Traffic isn&#8217;t moving and I need to be at &lt;INSERT DESTINATION&gt; now!&quot;.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>Instead when on public transport I grab a book, my iPod, or whatever and just use the ride to be productive or relax.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Buenos Aires public transport isn&#8217;t really as safe as BART. i.e. I&#8217;d never pull out my Powerbook and start hacking \/ waching a movie, etc on the subway, bus, or train. I have pulled it out on long cab rides to watch a DVD though. <\/p>\n<p>But the point is public transport is a much better way to get around.\u00c2\u00a0 Its too bad LA just doesn&#8217;t have it.\u00c2\u00a0 They tried with the subway, but it just doesn&#8217;t have enough stops.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>The one thing I wish I had a car for would be longer trips.\u00c2\u00a0 IE LA to Santa Barbara style (2-3 hours plus). Although with gas prices in the US public transport probably is a better deal.
