The GNASH folks appear to be making progress. I wonder if they plan Windows and OSX ports? Work requires me to use flash 8 based applications regulalry so flash on Linux would be amazing.

Friday, June 30th, 2006Sling Player and Wine 0.9.16
Thursday, June 29th, 2006Update 7/14/2006: This issue still exists in wine 0.9.17
While some bugs have been closed and progress is being made, Sling Player still does not run properly under wine 0.9.16. Currently it complains about MSXML3 being missing.
Grabbing the MSXML3 dlls from Windows XP doesn’t seem to resolve the issue. I attempted to install it using the MSXML3 installer from MSFT, but that seems to cause a page fault 3/4 way throug the install.

Scott Rosenberg: Craigslist's money left on the table?
Thursday, June 29th, 2006The absence of ads is one of the key factors behind Craigslist’s phenomenal success.

I would disagree with Scott on this one. Craigslist is successful because its simple and gives great results. Here in Buenos Aires, its simple but gives no results which is why it isn’t popular here yet. Text ads from google or a similar service would not detract from this and would not turn me off to their site, as long as they were kept simple and limited to 2-3 per page.
There is no reason for them not to cash in on this revenue stream, unless they just aren’t interested earning extra money.
Again nobody is suggesting heavy graphical ads or flashbased ads. Just a few simple text ads per page. If this done right, it could generate a large revenue stream and have limited to no effect on user experience or site functionality.

DashBlog and Qumana are out! Flock is in.
Thursday, June 29th, 2006I’ve now made Flock my primary blog posting app. It still has some
kinks, but I’ve found I’m about as comfortable with it as I was with
DashBlog and Qumana. I figured if its the same and built into my
browser, I’ve got one less app to run.
Anyways, for some reason Flock claims every post fails to upload, but
they still show up on my site so I’m just ignoring it for now. I
posted something to their forums, we’ll see how that goes
