Yahoo Games 3 – Wine 0

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

I decided to try and do some of the things my 11 year old sister does with her windows PC under wine. The first thing I did, was grab a few random shareware and demo games off of Yahoo games and

1) Snoodoku – Installed properly, but did not run at all. I filled bug report 4852 about this issue.

2) Lemonade Tycoon installed but would not run. No errors. I run it and nothing happens. Diner Dash, Family Feud, and a few others did the same. I haven’t created app entries or filed bug reports yet on these issues as I’d like to try and get more info on what the problem is.

VLC 0.8.4 under Wine 0.9.9

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

VLC installs and runs under wine, but is useless otherwise. It will play audio but not video. Fast-forwarding and rewinding mp3s does not function at all.

Several bugs already exist and there is entry in the application database.

I have reported bug 4851 and confirmed bug4609

Wine Testing

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

During his keynote at SCALE 4x, Dan Kegel called for users to run open-source windows applications under Wine. For This week I’ve been testing internal applications from work, as well as open-source applications.

For the rest of March I’m going to attempt to attempt run several open-source applications full time under wine. In addition, I will attempt to run all the Windows apps friends, etc point me at, which I normally ignore.

I’ll report bugs here and at winehq as I find them.
